What a good past couple weeks we’ve had seeing some powerful stuff from Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount! Here’s some questions from today formatted a little differently today…

Open The Scriptures

1. How does the passage in Matthew 7, particularly verse 21, challenge our understanding of what it means to enter the kingdom of heaven?
2. Reflect on the imagery of the wise and foolish builders in Matthew 7. What does building one’s house on the rock versus the sand symbolize in the context of following Jesus’ teachings?
3. In light of John’s teaching in Chapter 10, how do you interpret the statement, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”? How does this relate to Matthew 7’s emphasis on knowing Jesus?
4. Examine the phrase “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness” in Matthew 7:23. How does this warning relate to the concept of merely being ‘Jesus adjacent’?

1. Can you identify areas in your life where you might be ‘constructing on sandy ground’? How can you change this to build a stronger foundation on Christ?
2. Reflect on the idea of being “Jesus adjacent” rather than truly knowing Him. In what ways might this manifest in your life, and how can you cultivate a closer relationship with Him?
3. How would you counsel someone who wonders if they are actually a Christian after hearing such tough verses? Have you ever wrestled with these verses 7:21-23 before?
4. How do you discern between knowing about God and truly knowing God, especially in the busyness of life?
5. How do you respond to the teaching of Jesus? Go around the group and ask where the guys are spiritually with Jesus and obeying him.
