Following Jesus

At The Bridge Church, we exist to Make Much of Jesus because we believe He is our Rescuer and Redeemer, He offers us a whole new way of life, and the gospel is the best news that ever was.

Are you curious about what it means to be a Christian? A Christian is a follower of Jesus. This means a person has stopped trying to run their own life and says to Jesus, “I will submit to You, follow You, and trust You.”

The gospel is simply the “good news” of what God has done through Jesus. Jesus came to earth to rescue people from their sin (falling short of God’s perfection) and shame, in order to reconcile us back to God, eachother, and to heal our souls. The gospel also means that Jesus is King over everything. When Jesus came on the scene, he declared, “Repent (turn from your sins) for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!” Jesus lived the perfect, sinless life and then died a horrific death on a Roman cross in our place to forgive our sins. Jesus rose from the dead three days later to prove He has the power over sin and death and to offer eternal life to those who trust in Him.

Believing in Jesus is more than mere mental agreement with who He is and what He did. It is a transfer of trust from yourself/others and choosing to place your full hope and trust in Jesus alone. In doing so, we receive God’s gift of sheer grace–his unending forgiveness and unconditional love. He adopts into his family and fills us with the presence of his Holy Spirit, promising to be with us always.

Pastor and author Tim Keller said: “If you wonder if God cares about your life—the challenges you face, the pains you endure, and even the joys you have—think about the extent God has gone to show his love and friendship to you through Jesus’ death on the cross. On the cross, Jesus paid the price sin deserves and revealed the mystery of God’s love for people like me and you.”
