Open the Scriptures

1. Reflect on Colossians 3:5-10. What does it mean to put off the old self and put on the new self?

2. In Colossians 3:2-4, Paul instructs believers to set their minds on things above. Explore this idea of looking up and setting hearts on heavenly things. What does this look like practically?

3. Examine 1 John 2:15-17 and compare it with Colossians 3:6. How do both passages describe the dangers of earthly desires and the resulting consequences?

4. The list of sins in verses 5-8 describe “sins of desire” and “sins of disunity”. Why does Paul see these as so destructive and harmful to both individuals and the broader community?

1. The sermon spoke about anger and malice as destructive to relationships. Reflect on a time when you have struggled with anger. What steps could you take to address this, considering the call to declare war against such sins?

2. Paul says “put to death” what is earthly in you. What do you need to put to death in your life?

3. How can the idea of putting on new clothes (representing a new identity in Christ) alter your approach to the ways you seek fulfillment? Identify one area where you could begin living more intentionally from the “inside out” as described in the sermon.
