| Text: Matthew 14:22-33 Theme: Minding the Gap between our expectations and experiences in our faith journey with Jesus Open The Scriptures 1. In Matthew 14:22–33, what happens when Jesus comes to the disciples on the water and how do they react? 2. Why does Peter step out of the boat, and what does the passage say causes him to begin sinking? 3. How does Jesus respond to Peter’s fear and doubt, and what does that response teach us about who Jesus is in this story? 4. At the end the disciples worship and declare Jesus the Son of God—how does the calming of the storm help explain their response? Open Your Lives 1. Where in your life do you feel pressure to be a perfect or “super” disciple, and how does that pressure affect your walk with God? 2. Which of these best describes you most of the time—risk-taker like Peter, contemplative like Mary, or cautious like Thaddeus? 3. What is one spiritual habit you could try this week aimed at meeting Jesus (an encounter) rather than just improving yourself? 4. What is one realistic thing you can stop doing this month (comparison, people-pleasing, constant striving) so you can relax more into God’s presence? |
