– In Matthew 6:1, Jesus warns against practicing righteousness for the purpose of being seen by others. How does this relate to the examples of giving, praying, and fasting in the surrounding verses?
– Reflect on the story of the widow’s offering in Mark 12. What does this story reveal about the value of our offerings to God and how does it relate to the theme of seeking reward from God versus man?
– What does it mean that people have “received their reward” if they demonstrate their righteousness in order to be seen by others?
– What does it mean to do spiritual work “in secret”?
