1. Read verses 8–11. How does Paul model gospel-shaped leadership in the way he appeals to Philemon? What does this teach us about using authority versus appealing in love?

2. Paul says in v.16 that Onesimus should be received “no longer as a bondservant but more than a bondservant—as a beloved brother.” What implications does this have for how we see people in the church—especially those with a rough past?

3. The sermon connects the parable of the prodigal son with the story of Onesimus. How do these biblical stories demonstrate the principles of forgiveness and reconciliation?

4. In what way does Paul’s refusal to emphasize his apostolic authority in his letter to Philemon illustrate the nature of Christian leadership?

2. Have you ever had a “Onesimus moment”—a time when God met you in a place of running or brokenness and began to turn your life around? What did that season teach you about grace?

3. Is there someone you need to forgive—or ask forgiveness from? What’s holding you back? What might it look like to take a first step this week?

4. Reconciliation takes humility. Is there a relationship where pride has gotten in the way? What would it look like to choose humility and make the first move?
