Text: Psalm 32
Theme: The blessing of being found out/The Blessing of being known
Open the Scriptures
1. In Psalm 32, what does the phrase “blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven” teach us about the connection between forgiveness and happiness?
2. How is being stubborn like a mule or acting like a wild horse (v. 9) bad for your spiritual growth?
3. What are the side affects of keeping your sins/secrets hidden from others? What do verses 3-4 attempt to describe when we conceal/play games with, God, others, and ourselves?
Open Your Lives
1. Share a time in your life when you experienced the “power and freedom and joy of forgiveness.” How did confessing your struggles impact your relationship with God and others?
2. How might the concepts of “fake it until you make it” vs. “face it until you make it” apply to areas of your life where you’re experiencing struggle or shame?
3. Consider the idea that “self-deception is a very scary place to be.” How can we, as individuals, guard against self-deception in our spiritual walk and be open to God’s truth?
4. Practice confession in your group this week. Pause to take a few silent minutes and ask God to bring to mind anything to confess. Share what is true about your life and pray for one another.
